CELEBRATING CAPELLA SYDNEY AND ITS SUCCESS

The Capella Sydney continues to receive accolades and rave reviews from visitors.

We’re proud to celebrate its success and to recognise the role that Equilibrium Air Conditioning played in bringing the project to completion.

The completion of the transformation of the historic Sandstone Education building into the opulent 6-star hotel known as Capella Sydney certainly marked a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to protect and celebrate the rich cultural and architectural history of Sydney.

The iconic Sandstone Education building, a cornerstone of Sydney’s architectural heritage that served as the headquarters for the NSW Department of Education since 1912, has undergone a remarkable metamorphosis. Today, it stands as a world-class hotel that invites guests to step into the past while experiencing modern luxury.

The development of this historic site was a delicate balancing act, involving the gutting of the structure internally while carefully preserving the heritage sandstone facade and its perimeter. This meticulous process was driven by a commitment to maintaining the historical significance of the building while ushering it into a new era.

The heart of this redevelopment is the central water-cooled chiller plant, designed and constructed by the Equilibrium team. This system not only caters to the 192 hotel rooms but also makes provisions for the future expansion of the adjacent Lands building. The highlight of this system is its heat recovery feature, providing remarkable energy efficiency for the hotel. The innovative design integrates seamlessly with the building’s gas provisions, ensuring sustainability, especially for the heated swimming pool and spa, allowing guests to enjoy these amenities year-round.

The completion of this project is not just a construction milestone; it’s a preservation of heritage, a commitment to sustainability, and a testament to the strength of collective effort.
